Suzuki Viola and Violin Lessons
My Teaching Method
I teach a combination of the Suzuki method and traditional viola and violin. I am certified in Suzuki Violin Books I and II, where I was lucky enough to learn from Ronda Cole and David Strom. I have studied with members of the Baltimore Symphony and former Karen Tuttle and William Primrose Students. I implement the skills that I've learned from my viola teachers in combination with the Suzuki method. I've struggled with injuries and hypermobility, so I like to incorporate injury prevention and Alexander Technique into my teaching. I find inspiration from Noa Kageyama and implement performance psychology into my teaching.
I believe that any student can achieve their musical goals with focused, consistent practice. I always aim to make the lesson as fun and engaging as possible, while instilling students with discipline and critical thinking skills. I know not every student wants to go into music professionally, but I want everyone to get the most out of music and learn to express themselves. I really love teaching; it truly brightens my day to hear students play viola and violin.
About Suzuki Method
Similar to how children learn their native language, Suzuki students learn viola and violin through the mother-tongue approach with daily listening of the Suzuki repertoire. Suzuki families attend lessons with students and serve as the at-home teacher during practice throughout the week. Positive environment and encouragement are integral to the method. The goal of the Suzuki Method is to support young people as life-long learners with kind hearts.
